Thanksgiving Reminders For Your Pets

It’s that cozy time of year when we have more time with family and friends. Our pets are interacting too! To ensure furry friends are safe and happy this Thanksgiving, here are some helpful tips we wanted to share.

1. Watch the Food

Thanksgiving dinners are filled with delicious dishes, but not all of them are safe for pets. While it might be tempting to share scraps with your furry friends, it’s crucial to know which foods can be harmful. Foods like onions, garlic, grapes, raisins, and chocolate can pose serious health risks to pets. You should also never give your dog cooked turkey bones (or any cooked bones). Cooked bones can splinter and get stuck in a dog’s throat or stuck while digesting them. Instead, consider treating your pet with pet-friendly snacks or a small portion of plain, cooked turkey (without seasoning) as a special treat.

2. Secure the Trash

As you prepare your Thanksgiving feast, be mindful of the trash! With all the food preparation, it’s easy for a tempting morsel to end up in the garbage. Make sure to keep the trash can securely closed — pets can be mischievous, and rummaging through the garbage can lead to harmful ingestion or digestive issues.

3. Create a Comfort Zone

Thanksgiving gatherings can lead to a bustling home filled with people, noise, and excitement. If your pet is shy or anxious around crowds, create a designated quiet area where they can retreat to relax. Provide their favorite blanket, toys, and a comfortable bed to help them feel at ease amid the holiday chaos.

4. Monitor Interactions

While it’s wonderful to have family and friends over, always supervise interactions between your pets and guests, especially children. Teach guests and kiddos how to interact safely with your pets and remind everyone to respect your pet’s space. This will help prevent any accidental injuries or stress for both pets and guests.

5. Hydration is Key

With all the hustle and bustle surrounding Thanksgiving, it’s easy to overlook a low or empty water bowl. Keep their water bowl filled and encourage them to stay hydrated, especially if they are indulging in any special treats.

We Hope You Enjoy Thanksgiving!

With these tips in mind, you can create a safe and welcoming environment for your furry friends while enjoying the festivities. Let’s keep our pets happy and healthy this holiday season!
